Where the tax comes from

Taxable income is ₹6,39,000 after the ₹75,000 of deductions, which is within the section 87A rebate cap, so income tax is zero. The only deductions are EPF and professional tax.

When the old regime wins

You would need at least ₹1,62,000 of old-regime deductions a year — 80C, HRA exemption, home loan interest, 80D combined — before the old regime pays more than the new. Below that, the new regime saves ₹46,613 a year.

Hike to the next rung

Reaching 8 LPA is a 6.7% hike and adds ₹3,767 a month in hand. Dropping to 7 LPA costs ₹3,767 a month. Check any percentage on the hike calculator.

7.5 LPA is inside the tax-free zone

On this structure, any CTC up to about ₹13,39,000 pays no income tax in FY 2026-27, because the section 87A rebate covers taxable income up to ₹12 lakh. That leaves ₹5,89,000 of tax-free headroom above 7.5 LPA. Of the next ₹1 lakh of CTC, ₹90,400 reaches your account.

Tax-saving investments do nothing at this salary: there is no tax left to save, so 80C, 80D and NPS only make sense for their own returns. Employer NPS would move ₹42,000 a year into your retirement account, but monthly in hand changes by −₹3,500 a month.
