Where the tax comes from

Taxable income is ₹29,71,400, which reaches the 30% slab. Every extra rupee is taxed at 31.2% including cess, while the effective rate on gross is 16.5%.

When the old regime wins

You would need at least ₹7,98,000 of old-regime deductions a year — 80C, HRA exemption, home loan interest, 80D combined — before the old regime pays more than the new. Below that, the new regime saves ₹2,48,851 a year.

Hike to the next rung

Reaching 35 LPA is a 9.4% hike and adds ₹15,175 a month in hand. Dropping to 30 LPA costs ₹10,116 a month. Check any percentage on the hike calculator.

32 LPA is taxed at 30% at the margin

Taxable income of ₹29,71,400 reaches the 30% slab, so each extra rupee loses 31.2% to tax and cess. Of the next ₹1 lakh of CTC you keep ₹60,698. The next step, where the 10% surcharge starts, comes at a CTC of about ₹53,31,000.

Employer NPS at 14% of basic (₹1,79,200 a year) saves ₹1,11,821 a year in tax. Because the contribution comes out of your CTC, monthly in hand changes by −₹5,615 a month, but the money lands in your retirement account instead of the tax department.
